Hey guys it's the summer time duldrums, that is if you are like me and just hafta hunt!

This spring was definitely good to the crew! We started at R-K Outfitters and on opening morning Brian Guffey achieved two personal firsts by slamming his first turkey with a bow-and that particular turkey was his first Merriam! Way to go Brian!! All-in-all we collectively came up with 19 turkeys on the ground and more misses than we all care to talk about! But in time it will all be revealed on Copper John's Wild Extremes.

As tukey season came to a close state by state it was time to switch gears and tangle with some Black Bears, (which actually almost happened three different times!) David Cowan drew first blood up in Alberta, but only after he endured a stare-down by a Blackie at a mere 10 yards...WHILE ON THE GROUND!

It was then my turn in Sasakatchewan with Elaine Outfitters where a big boar decided that he had enough of Zane and I before we could even get in our tree stand! That big bear got introduced to the deadly combination of my Dead Nuts sight, CAT series rest, Martin Slayr, Carbon Tech and Grim Reaper. You put that combination in your hand and great things are going to happen!!!!

Shane Sweeney was next at the plate. I was fortunate enough to be able to tag along on Shane's hunt with the camera and capture the events that unfolded that first night. We had sat a couple hours when a good bear walked in and promptly climbed our tree! Shane for a first timer, you handled that encounter like a pro! I don't know if ultimately it was revenge on Shane's part, or if the boar hung out too long and the temptation was too grea,t but Shane did a little smokin' with his stick and string! It was a first for me...I had never videotaped an animal being taken with traditional equipment. Shane can shoot!!

We are gearing up for antelope. It takes a lot of prep and driving. Six of us will be out on my place in South Dakota this year, but first Brian Guffey and I will be making a stop out at Mike Hatfields to see if lightning can strike twice! After the crew gets done in South Dakota, it will be a trip for me across the border into Wyoming to hunt with R-K Outfitters. Rick Kreuter has some great goats roaming around-hopefully one with my name on it!

I will keep all of you up to date on what the crew is doing on the road. Remember, it's not just an army of one...

 Thumbs Up

I know I was one of those that contributed a miss (or two) to the turkey footage, but I made up for it with a kill and  filmed Phil!!!! wink I missed out on the bears and all that excitement, which I'm not sure I want that much!!!! I think for us to have that much excitement antelope hunting, I'll have to lay down by a water hole and have the rest of the guys drive a heard of the vicious goats across my jello covered body!!!! cheesy

I contributed 2 very, very early mornings this spring for my first turkey hunting exprience.  Unfortunately for me my turkey birds were side tracked both mornings by a very amorous hen over the hill, and far enough away that I didn't see one at all.  My caller insistis that it was his fault, but I say that hen was my problem!
I guess that's not a miss but I think that I'd rather have had a miss than had nuttin at all!   cry
